This week, Nufurn embarked on an unexpected adventure to Burnie, Tasmania. What initially began as a request for new gaming stools turned into a whirlwind of logistics, proving that sometimes, the best stories arise from unforeseen challenges.
Upon receiving the original request for fully assembled gaming stools, our commitment to exceptional service kicked in immediately. Pallets were swiftly booked, and our seasoned on-site project manager, Jon, was primed to jet off to Burnie, ensuring a seamless installation.
As fate would have it, our lovely client, Belinda of The Beach Hotel, threw a curveball into the mix by expressing a need for outdoor furniture as well. Undeterred by the unexpected twist, Dean, our renowned Hotel expert, embarked on a mad scramble to ensure that outdoor chairs and tables were not only prepared but also packed on pallets by the designated Tuesday collection.
Navigating the intricacies of Tasmanian deliveries, Jon was taken aback when he received the surprising call from Belinda that the furniture had already arrived. This deviation from the norm posed a logistical challenge, especially considering Jon's current location on the Gold Coast, handling another install. Undeterred, Jon hopped on three planes, arriving in Burnie with nothing but the shirt on his back.
Fortune smiled upon us as Belinda proved to be incredibly accommodating, providing not only the necessary tools for Jon to assemble gaming stools and tables but also a spare pair of track suit pants. The unexpected camaraderie and resourcefulness in the face of challenges exemplified the spirit of collaboration.
This unexpected journey showcased the resilience and adaptability of the Nufurn team, turning potential hurdles into memorable experiences.
No visit to Tasmania would be complete without a stay at The Beach Hotel in Burnie—an unexpected destination that turned into a testament to the power of teamwork and a commitment to delivering excellence, even in the face of unforeseen challenges.

The Salon De Mobile is an experience, stunning furniture and spectacular designs.
I am loving the new trend in fabric, using 100% recycled plastic, fabric manufactures are producing soft, hard wearing commercial fabrics. It takes 370 plastic drinking bottles to cover a 2 seater lounge.
The trend in colours was predominately soft pink, terracotta and forest green with lots of curved backs on chairs.
I found the new designs for outdoor furniture innovating, unusual shapes and faster drying fabrics were prolific throughout the show.
Looking forward to next year, see you then Milan. Have those Aperol Spritz ready for me
]]>Choosing the right look for your venue is hard enough however what can really be confusing is differences, which often aren't detailed, between the material used to make these table tops.
Hundreds of companies around the world manufacture Decorated Board Materials for companies like Nufurn to shape and finish into Hospitality Table Tops. Many of the countries that export these products into Australia do not have the same Health or Environmental standards as Australia regarding the appropriateness and safety of the materials used.
It is also really important to make the distinction between the boards used to make flat packed domestic or office furniture, which do not need to be rated for toxic emissions, be moisture resistant, be highly abrasion resistant or be as structurally rigid as hospitality table tops.
We hope this helps you to understand the key differences in the way most Hospitality Table Tops are described, by most sellers in the Australian marketplace.
Laminate - Definition:
‘Overlay (a flat surface, especially paper) with a layer of plastic or some other protective material’.
In Hospitality Furniture:
The terms Laminate and Melamine are often used interchangeably when describing Hospitality Table Tops. Both products are used extensively to produce commercial hospitality furniture however there are some important differences. It’s helpful to know that what you’re purchasing is fit for purpose and the best option for you.
We know the products as Melamine & Laminate however, from a specification and manufacturing point of view, the correct names are Low Pressure Laminate (Melamine) & High Pressure Laminate (Laminate).
99% of the time - Hospitality Table Tops will be a 'Melamine' product.
Basic Product Comparison:
Low Pressure Laminate or ‘LPL’ = Melamine
Also known as ‘Pre-Finished Board’, Melamine refers to the thin, single sheet of paper that is bonded with ‘Melamine Resin’ to a substrate board. For Commercial Hospitality Furniture we use Moisture Resistant Boards.
The ‘Low Pressure’ refers to the manufacturing process – Melamine is manufactured at 200-350kgs per-square-metre of pressure and at a temperature of 170°C-190°C.
Melamine is best suited to vertical, low impact applications – such as desk and table tops.
Melamine is the most cost effective option as we are able to purchase the ‘Pre-Finished Boards’ direct from the manufacturer (Polytec & Laminex) in a wide range of colours and finishes which require only basic finishing to cut to size. We then apply impact absorbing edge banding for table tops.
High Pressure Laminate or ‘HPL’ = Laminate
Producing a Laminate is a multi-step process. The ‘laminate’ product itself is made up of 6-8 layers of resin impregnated Kraft paper, a decorative paper (with pattern or colour) and a clear, protective, overlay. This produces a laminate sheet usually 0.7mm to 1mm thick.
The laminate sheet is then bonded to a suitable substrate. For Commercial Hospitality Furniture we use Moisture Resistant Boards.
The ‘High Pressure’ refers to the manufacturing process – Laminate is manufactured at 1,000kgs per-square-metre of pressure and at a temperature under 140°C.
Laminate is often used to produce shaped or architectural products where the builder or joiner will cut the laminate sheets to the appropriate shape and size before bonding the pieces to the substrate.
High Performance Laminate are generally over specified for hospitality applications, therefore are not the most cost efficient option.
Moisture Resistant Board Core:
Nufurn uses only products that are bonded to Moisture Resistant Particleboard Cores. This ensures our table tops (unlike most imported, domestic or office table tops) is suitable for use in even the wettest of hospitality venues.
Please note though that Melamine or Laminate Hospitality Table Tops are only intended for Indoor use and that moisture resistance does not mean waterproof.
Your Melamine or Laminate Hospitality Table Tops should not be submerged in water or left in the rain. If you'd like a product that withstand those environments, consider our range of Compact Laminate Table Tops (click here).
Emissions Ratings:
Our particleboard cores are either E0 or E1 (emissions rating) which renders them perfectly safe for indoor use, ensuring staff, guests and the environment are not exposed to harmful, toxic emissions from low quality bonding agents used in low quality table tops. Be aware that many other countries do not have these safety and environmental standards and that imported products may be putting you and your guests at risk.
Our Particleboards:
Polytec Melamine Particleboard Core:
16mm-33mm Moisture Resistant (MR), E1 Particleboard (PB) factory bonded with resin, impregnated paper (Kraft) on both sides. The hardened resin creates an outer layer providing an excellent surface for all applications.
Click for Polytec Melamine Table Top Care & Maintenance Guide
Laminex Vertiboard Particleboard Core:
13mm-33mm Moisture Resistant (MR), E0 particleboard, factory bonded with resin, impregnated paper (Kraft) on both sides. The hardened resin creates an outer layer providing an excellent surface for all applications. The superior performance of Laminex Vertiboard MR is due to the bonding of the wood particles with a specially blended moisture resistant resin system.
Click for Laminex Melamine Table Top Care & Maintenance Guide
In Summary:
Melamine is the best and most popular option for commercial hospitality furniture, particular table tops due to the ready availability of the pre-laid boards, the low cost of producing high volumes of those pre-laid boards as well as the low cost to convert those boards (often as large as 3600mm x 3600mm) into smaller table tops.
99% of the time, if a commercial furniture supplier refers to table tops or furniture as ‘Laminate’ what they mean, and will supply, is ‘Melamine’.
Assembly Considerations:
Melamine & Laminate Hospitality Table Tops should not require pre-drilling of holes as the particleboard core can be screwed directly into.
Method for attaching your Melamine & Laminate Hospitality Table Tops to your Nufurn Restaurant Table Bases:
1.
Ensure your table tops are on a soft surface - to prevent scratching the surface
2.
Sometimes the underside is not the same colour as the top-side. Make sure you are drilling into the underside!
3.
With the top-side facing down (underside facing up) position your table base in the centre of the underside.
4.
Check your screw is long enough and not too long! Place the table base fixing plate on the table top with at least one hole overhanging the edge of the table top. put a screw in the hole - it will drop through and you'll be able to see how far into the particleboard core your screw will go.
a) You want at least 10mm's depth of screw into the material.
b) You do not want to go within 5mm of the Top Side.
c) Even if Nufurn has supplied the screws - you must check them yourself. Nufurn is not responsible if you attach your own table tops. Even if we've supplied the screws.
5.
Position your table base correctly.
a) To be precise, measure the distance from all 4 corners and all 4 sides however a little off centre will not be noticeable or impact stability.
b) If the table base is a 4 way style - the feet should be pointing INTO the corners of the table top. The base will not be stable if the feet point into the middle of the edges.
c) If you are using a square base, table base - the corners of the base plate should be pointing into the corners of the table top.
d) Take extra time and care to line up the feet/corners so they are close to identical on all tables. It look AWFUL otherwise and can create a foot stubbing and trip hazard.
6.
Using a SCREW setting on your drill and a LOW SPEED insert your screws.
a) Nufurn will usually supply self tapping screws at the appropriate length for the table base and table top combination we supply to you.
b) If you are using your existing table bases - please be extra careful with screw length.
c) Most table bases have 8 screw holes. It is important to insert all 8 screws.
d) Insert the 4 outer corner screws first. This will help you position the base correctly.
e) Drill slowly so not to strip the holes you are creating. If you strip the holes, your screws may be loose or fall out.
f) Do not overtighten the screws or you risk stripping the threads/holes. Ensure the screw head is flush with the table base fixing plate however do not continue to drill.
Handling / Moving Tips
Always lift your tables by the STEM of the table base when turning the tables over, onto their feet or when picking them up completely off the floor.
It is suitable to drag table tops by pulling the edge or corner if you are moving them short distances however you should never pick up a table by holding the table top.
We can't stress this enough. Some of the table bases weigh 20+ kgs and could tear out screws particularly if you haven't used the right screw gauge, depth or number of screws.
The vast majority of calls we have fielded from clients over the past 25 years, about their table tops, is because they have failed to follow these simple assembly instructions TO THE LETTER.
How to order?

]]>Then we got a little bit nervous, over three hundred gaming stools to be delivered and installed to the middle of Australia within 3 - 4 months, wow.
“No problem” said Paul Kemp our favourite Pub account manager. So Paul set about confirming the gaming stool style, fabric, base and mechanism. Iris decided to continue with the Sarava Gaming Stool which has been very popular in their other venues.
As Paul had promised, everything was going smoothly, the containers of gaming stools had landed in Darwin, the pallets of swivel mechanisms were on their way from Sydney, extra staff had been organised, skip bins booked then we heard the news that trains were delayed due to the floods in the Northern Territory. A few nail biting moments but the guys in Alice were amazing, they understood that we can not control the weather as much as we would like to.
Finally the big day arrived, Paul and Jon – Nufurn’s amazing On-Site Project Manager flew to Alice and spent four days assembling the gaming stools
The boys finished their trip with a great day out at Alice Springs Turf Club and a well deserved beer
]]>Leaving Sydney at 5.00am, my first stop was Leeton Soldiers Club to see how the installation went late last year. Let’s just say, I was impressed, the fabrics that the management team of Leeton and myself had chosen were perfect for the design provided by Curtin Architects.
Next stop was Mulwala Water Ski Club, where I laid my head in one of their comfortable Motel rooms. It had been a long hot day in the Nufurn Honda Jazz
Up early to meet with Chris and the management team to discuss fabrics for the new Bayside chairs for their lounge, after much input from staff, colours where chosen. A few quick photos of their restaurant where we had installed tables and San Pedro chairs last year, I was on the road again to Albury.
I was honored to meet Verity from Verity Rhodes Interiors at Albury Commercial Club, Verity has been slowly transforming the club for the last two years. Taking the traditional fixtures and adding a modern feel, she is doing amazing work. I can’t wait to see the finished results
Heading home, I made the best discovery – My Jazz steering wheel can hold 5 Malteasers

2018 was filled with furniture deliveries to Sydney, Brisbane, Australian Capital Territory and all across Australia.
Here are some of our favourite projects for 2018!
We can't wait for 2019. What new products do we have in store for you! Find out after the break!
There's no simple answer, especially when it comes to seating but first things first, you need to know that restoration is a viable option for venues on a limited budget.
Here’s a basic guide to give you an idea but it really requires a thorough cost/benefit analysis to determine the best way to go.
Be aware the cost of restoration falls into three categories:
The top two are important considerations. The cost of the fabric and replacement foam will help form the basis of your decision but if the frames are in really bad condition the costs suddenly shoot up.
To break it down simply:
You also have to bear in mind that restored furniture will last longer than what you had before in its pre-restored state because of the quality of the new materials we supply. If leaving things as is means the pieces of furniture will have to be replaced within two years anyway, it may be worth restoring to add years to its life before complete replacement is needed.
When it comes to tables, bases can be touched up or resprayed. Due to the time involved, it's best to have this done by the club's maintenance manager. The costs of sending them out, having them professionally redone, and transported back to the club usually outweighs the cost of replacement.
Feel like they need to be restored or replaced earlier than you anticipated?
Well, by asking the right questions right at the beginning of your furniture selection process, you can actually delay having to make such decisions.
By choosing and customising your chairs based on these important factors you can be sure that they will stand the test of time. There are many considerations and these are but a few of them. The years of experience we have here at Nufurn mean that we can help you to choose the perfect chairs taking into account design, durability, comfort, style and more.
So to summarise:
When the time does come for restoration or replacement of furniture Nufurn has you covered but our service goes beyond the initial buying process. Proper maintenance will substantially extend the life of any furnishings and Nufurn is able to provide you with all the right advice on how to get the most from your investment by protecting and maintaining it correctly.
We can help you save precious time and money.
]]>A well-planned flow of interior space and a layout that's rich in ambiance and functionality will always be a winner in any club or restaurant. However, with varying room sizes, and new furniture designs, impediments such as pillars and doorways, and access to thoroughfares to consider, it's no wonder it takes time and resources to get it right.
Using floor space is critical to running a business both from an aesthetic and an operational point of view. The right design is critical to how the works for both your clientele and your hospitality staff.
The key factors to consider when designing space are:
Floor Plan Access Checklist
The City of Melbourne has created a checklist for restaurants and cafes to evaluate how accessible they are and check if they are meeting their legal requirements. We highly encourage that you go through this checklist:

]]>Two comment tests are the Wyzenbeek Vs. Martindale
These tests will determine whether your furniture is suitable for commercial or domestic use.
Wyzenbeek Test:
The number of double rub cycles before there is any noticeable wear.
During the test, the fabric is pulled tightly into a frame. The warp and weft of the fabric are then rubbed against a cotton duck. Each back and forth rub is counted as 1 double rub. The number of double rubs is counted until the fabric shows sign of wear or the yarn breaks.
Furniture going into high traffic areas such as hotel rooms, dining areas, and conference rooms should withstand 30,000+ double rubs Wyzenbeek method.
Martindale Test:
During the Martindale abrasion test, the fabric is laid on a flat surface and a wool cloth is rubbed against it in a figure 8 shape. Each figure 8 rub is counted as a “cycle.” The number of cycles that the fabric can endure before showing any signs of wear.
Furniture going into high traffic areas such as hotel rooms, dining areas, and conference rooms should withstand 40,000+ cycles.

A question we often get asked is...what is Rattan furniture?
Nufurn ‘Rattan’ Outdoor Furniture is made from a synthetic ‘weave’ and is perfect for leaving outdoors all year, in all conditions.
Synthetic Outdoor Rattan is a flexible but sturdy man-made fibre which has revolutionised the outdoor furniture market. Good quality synthetic outdoor rattan furniture is impervious to the forces of both Mother Nature and day to day use. Being UV stable, it won't fade in the sun, become brittle and crack in the cold, peel or suffer from mildew even if left outside all year round. Furthermore it can do all this without maintenance and is available in traditional or truly modern designs.
Real/natural rattan could not be used outside. Hence the use of the term 'rattan' when describing outdoor furniture is usually always the synthetic type. You may also have heard it called wicker or weave; they also refer to synthetic outdoor rattan.
Unlike traditional natural wicker/rattan outdoor furniture which is woven from natural abaca (palm) strands, modern outdoor all weather Synthetic Outdoor Rattan furniture is hand woven from weather resistant synthetics that are far more durable and include UV proofing additives that can resist fading for decades. Synthetic Outdoor Rattan furniture will keep its colour far longer than traditional garden outdoor furniture and is also chlorine resistant. It is truly amazing.
What’s beneath the Synthetic Outdoor Rattan is just as important:
Nufurn only supply fully welded aluminium frames beneath our Synthetic Outdoor Rattan Furniture with those frames having a 100% powder coat coverage.
We never use steel and advise against you choosing a steel framed furniture item for your outdoor area. Whilst perfect for so many indoor furniture applications, even if powder coated very well, steel will rust because the powder coating will inevitably become scratched with use and expose the steel.
Because of its non-corrosive properties, aluminium is also used to make important components in the automotive industry as well as in spacecraft and rockets. For long lasting all weather outdoor furniture, buy fully welded aluminium framed pieces. Knockdown style lounges and chairs may weaken in time and become unstable, and you will also have unsightly joins.
Many importers use steel frames as this is cheaper to manufacture but shortens your furniture's life expectancy and should be avoided at all times. They will import furniture that requires assembly as this is the cheapest method of shipping however screwed or riveted legs or arms on chairs are just not durable enough for commercial outdoor environments.
With the exciting developments being made, Club Redfern reopened in November 2012 to serve the community.
The changing demographics and local landscape in and around Redfern made the board and management of Club Redfern look to the future which included a rebuilt of Club Redfern by the end of 2017. This included a complete aesthetic overhaul commencing with a replacement of all furniture, lighting and a colour scheme.
With that in mind, Anthony contacted Nufurn and requested for a Club Furniture Specialist to visit Club Redfern and provide furniture solutions that would meet their specifications.
To complement the aesthetic changes the club has brought in new caterers, Thomas and Patti from The Happy Gathering Catering. Thomas and Patti have extensive experience operating their own restaurants in Sydney’s China Town and Cronulla over the past 30 years.
A Club with a huge appreciation for its community and its people planned and executed the Club with incredible support from one another. The Board led by Chairman Cecil McQuillan worked together in all facets of the change and were over the moon with the results. The members of the club were just as happy with the finished product.
A special message from Club Redfern:
"Of course all of this couldn’t have been possible without the entire staff driving the change. Special mention to staff Jenny, Christina, John and Graham for their input, support and help during the entire project." - Anthony MacAlpine
What can people expect from Club Redfern? A clean, safe, family-friendly environment for the enjoyment of all of the clubs members and guests.

Has the product been tested, and does it function and perform as described?
Anyone can bring a product to market, so make sure the product you’re spending your invested money on has been well tested for commercial use. Nufurn Gladiator & Wimbledon Chairs are the only folding resin chairs with double certification, tested & approved by both AFRDI (AS/NZS 4688.2000) & BIFMA International (5.1 Standard-2002) at Commercial Level 4: General Commercial Standard Product. There are no other folding chairs on the market with steel reinforcements in the rear legs for extra strength & safety. Pat# 6,969,113
Who else uses the product in the industry, and what do they think of the product’s usefulness and performance?
Call around and talk to other users; it will be well worth your time. People who have used the product are sometimes your best resource on product performance. 100% Australian owned and established since 1996, Nufurn are specialist manufactures of folding and stacking event chairs and tables, designed to exceed the requirements of the global event furniture industry. Nufurn have supplied more resin folding chairs to more customers both in Australia and the USA which has the world’s largest event hire market with over 9000 party hire companies in operation. We would be happy to provide you with customer referrals upon request.
Is the product cost effective, and does it fit in the current budget?
Is it a one-time expense or will the product need to be supported financially for years to come? Many products have future budget implications from the day you buy them. Understand the financial commitment each product carries and plan what the costs will be for the life of the product, such as preventative maintenance, product supplies and repair cost when damaged. Nufurn’s folding event chairs will be a long-term equipment required for your business and Nufurn have always manufactured to a commercial standard and offer a commercial warranty that you can rely on. Nufurn’s products are guaranteed to perform. Other imitation folding chairs deteriorate much sooner, needing to be replaced more often, costing your business an unnecessary cost in replacing folding chairs.
What is the company’s ability to support the product into the future?
A warranty is only as good as the company that backs the product. Make it your goal to purchase products from companies that are well established in the industry and have a solid reputation for standing behind their products. Nufurn supports the Gladiator and Wimbledon chairs with a 10 year commercial warranty and also carry stock spare parts of every single chair component. So if a client of yours does damage a chair or lose a small part, you will not have to purchase a whole new chair – you can just replace the part. Do other companies offer this service?
Will the product require regular service and maintenance?
Who fixes the chairs if they break, and where are they located? This is important: If it breaks it’s going to need to be fixed. If you purchase from overseas suppliers, what chances do you have of contacting the supplier and fixing the problem? More often than not, you will simply be told that there was nothing wrong with the products. We hear this same story time and time again from customers who tried to save a little bit up front. Cheap always become expensive in the end.
Have you looked at a physical sample to determine your decision?
How likely would you purchase a car if you haven’t taken the car for a test drive? There need to be other features of the chair other than price that draws your attention. However what if you get stuck buying a lemon? How much will this cost you overall when considering repairs and maintenance on a product that you were sold only on price? Nufurn thrives on customer service and our TRUE CONFIDENCE in our folding event chairs needs to be seen first-hand to be believed. If you cannot make it into our Sydney showroom to see the real difference, request a sample for evaluation of the original Gladiator and Wimbledon resin folding chairs. We guarantee once you sit in our Gladiator or Wimbledon chair vs the competitors, that you’ll choose ours or your money back.

Outside, the guests were seated in mismatched white timber chairs. To create this look, you can use bentwood chairs such as the Bon Uno S, Copenhagen, Tiamo, Calvi, Capri and/or the Bello and stain them white.
But for those that need stacking chairs, we think the Bon Uno S, Athena 1 or Athena 2, Dublin stool, and Burnley Chair would work great!
The barns original furniture and supplies were pushed to the side, while rugs and assorted lounges took their place for the night.
A simple crochet table cloth, baby breath flowers, eloquent coffee table and the twinkling lights created a white accent to compliment the outdoor timber chairs. The touch of distressed shades of pink continued inside the barn to enhance the vintage look.
Rustic party events are supposed to bring out nostalgic memories of the past social gatherings etiquettes. The host would serve hearty home-made food, and unique serveware to their most special guests.
The Golden Dandelion brought back childhood memories of sharing desserts such as fairy floss, popcorn and ice cream with family and friends at carnival events.
The most special thing about rustic weddings is the fact that it brings out the thought that our everyday life should be filled with family and close friends and to remember to show them that we appreciate their company.

Always beautiful but now with just so much more opportunity to spoil yourself.
The night before the event, we thought we should go around the restaurants and learn about them, you know, for market research purpose - of course.
We learned that on Mondays, you can get lamb skewers for $15 at the Squire's Maiden
We had the chance to see the refurbishment of Quality Hotel Noah's on the Beach restaurant with our Miss Mojito and Waldorf aluminum chairs. Looks fantastic!
In the morning, we revisited our favourite place, the Blue Door Cafe and had the most delicious breakfast - healthy too!
We got to meet the influences who helped transform the city such as EJE architects and exceptional hotel owners who are always looking to improve their hospitality and customer experience.
With a wide range of projects, we decided to bring in a bit of everything. From bentwood chairs to gaming stools and a wide range of tables and dry bars. We thought about adding in some decorative pieces to freshen up the place a bit but who are we kidding? We are not the designers and we really didn't want to risk trying in front of them!
We got up not so bright and early to set up. The quiet streets of Newcastle CBD was distrupted by a commercial furniture company unloading furniture on the streets - sorry!
We were very thankful for the wonderful support from the staff at Crowne Plaza, Newcastle. They helped us arrange for the night and brought in delicious morning tea, lunch and afternoon treats for our guests. It was a fantastic night and we cannot wait to come again!
Thank you to all of our special guests for attending our roadshow and we look forward to working with you in the future.

Our Club Account Manager, Christine Dengate, worked with the talented and visionary management team on a complete transformation of the Legends Bar.
This multi-faceted area serves as Café, Bistro, Lounge, TAB and Function Area during any given day, with the existing furniture still in good condition but tired and lacking in colour and variety. The proposal Christine Dengate presented to Lee Mackay and CEO Scott Bennet was a simple one. To create a casual and vibrant space with a range of flexible and comfortable seating and dining options to meet the wide demographic requirements of this bustling Eastern Suburbs Club.
The Legends Bar features 3 x large Banquettes separated into their own hubs with a range of other seating and tables for casual dining. Nufurn was tasked with the refurbishment of the tired looking banquettes, with the fabric and vinyl selection informing the new colour palette used throughout the space. This work has been completed by Nufurn’s in-house upholstery division in preparation for the much-anticipated installation of the Club’s new furniture.
Stay tuned for full installation photos coming soon.
]]>It was a day filled with great conversation and opportunity to listen to industry leaders tackle on important issues regarding the pub industry and Mystery Shoppers revealing their most shocking findings.
Taking everything in, we created the Top 5 Factors to Consider when Running a Pub just for you!
We must start with staff training as there was a general consensus that staff training drives the success of the business. Staff needs to create a welcoming and safe environment for customers. They must be trained on conflict resolutions, understanding customer preferences and can maintain civility during rush hours. In under no circumstances should staff tell customers to “get it yourself” or place food that was dropped on the floor back onto customers plate! Surprisingly, these events still occur as revealed by Mystery Shopper, Louise Heffernan from Girl Friday Solutions.
In order to create familiarity with customers, management is encouraged to participate in local community activities. From sponsoring a sport’s game to doing charity work, the Pub will become the central hub for social gatherings. Customers would celebrate momentous occasions at the Pub as it becomes a familiar ground to even the place they go to ease back from a rough day.
It is also vital for management to build trust and relationship with local council members and to make it an absolute priority to follow regulations, be transparent and as compliant as possible. With the backing of local police and being involved with the council, the Pub will create an even safer place for their customers.
The line between Pubs and restaurants are becoming a bit more blurry. Customers enter to Pubs get a bargain for meals but there are also those that come into have long lunches with family. With dining becoming such an oversaturated market, customers are expecting high-value food no matter what.
Therefore, stress was made again on the importance of staff training to be able to understand customer needs and to also be aware of customers dietary requirements. With the rise of allergies, Pub owners were advised to have allergy disclaimers on their menus. A special presentation was made by Bhavani Baumann who opened the very first Australian Vegan Pub, The Green Lion.
A Pub or a “Public Home” is where customers go to enjoy drinks and meals with family and friends in a casual setting. From the furniture design to the menu and staff’s welcoming attitude, it all needs to come together and create a sense that this is their second home. Cayas Architecture stunned the crowd with a preview of their 3D Design and Virtual Reality technology that gives you the opportunity to visualize how your Pub would look like after it has been built with all furniture in place.
A Pub is part of a highly connected community which means firing becomes more of a public matter than in any other industry. Rumors of unfair dismissal would nullify all management attempt of creating a trusted community hub. Due diligence must be taken into place for management to have a strong stance in their decision of dismissing a staff member and hopefully will create a level of understanding between former employee and management.
]]>The latest addition to the Hurricane's Grill family officially opened in December and if you have not seen it, it is time for you to take your team out for lunch. (You're welcome team)
Perfectly situated in the Gateway Building, this restaurant is nestled not too far away from two of Sydney's most iconic landmarks - The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Now branching across Australia, Hurricane's Grill is no secret. They are renowned for their exquisite food, impeccable service and providing a unique dining experience to customers. We dare you to try their famous flame grilled ribs and steak!
Nufurn had the pleasure of working with The Hurricane's Team for a number of years now. They raise the bar when it comes to quality, service and standards.
Hurricane's Grill in Circular Quay was designed by MHN DESIGN UNION. If you look carefully around the restaurant, every inch has been meticulously accounted for.
The ceiling alone has several different types of shapes, colours, textures and patterns.
Natural and Dark Walnut Bon Uno Bentwood chairs were selected to match the timber accents throughout the restaurant and to keep with the theme of their existing sites.
Private Dining
Soft, multicoloured floor tiles with a green wall feature and our upholstered Ainslee armchair, provides a charming and tranquil vibe in this exquisite dining area.
The area can be nestled away by closing the timber panel sliding doors to create a more intimate setting for corporate and private events.
Hurricane's Grill has always impressed us. And this year, they have without a doubt, outdone themselves. With such a spectacular result, we applaud Hurricane's Grill on the opening of yet another location. We wish them every success for this venture.
]]>Lucky for you (and for us), we had the opportunity to tour the Pacific Eden Cruise Ship. We learned about the incredible corporate facilities they have on board and their all-inclusive corporate packages.
While Rebecca Mutanen, the Corporate Groups Sales Manager was giving us a tour, we couldn’t help but ask over and over again, “wait.. this is also included?"
We were stunned.
That is why we decided to provide you with the Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Leave Earth on Your Next Corporate Event
There are even more entertainment options that you and your colleagues can choose to participate in. From Spa treatments, shows, casinos, to a range of dining options. It is all there. You can even enjoy a meal in the first Australian celebrity chef restaurant at sea, Salt grill by Luke Mangan!
If you need more convincing, here are some photos that we took on our tour. Enjoy!
Nufurn had the pleasure to custom make banquet chairs for the Pacific Eden conference room. Is it just me or do the frames look like waves *wink.*

1. What do you want to offer your customers?
In the past couple of years, we have seen a growth in the variety of different types of event hire companies. There are companies who provide staging, sound systems and food catering to corporate events to wedding hire companies with styling and photography services.
Our advice is to think about what creative element you love the most and model your business towards it. You will end up providing your services with heart, which is the absolute competitive tool.
2. Is the business registered?
If yes, great! If not, we ask that you please consult with a business adviser. They can provide you with information on what laws apply to you and what registrations, licences and permits to have in order to run your business
3. Storage – Do you have room to store your new equipment?
Many start-up businesses begin their journey from home. Let’s make sure you have the capacity to hold all of your hire products.
One of our most popular chairs in the event hire industry are the Gladiator resin folding chairs, stackable Bon Bentwood chairs and the iconic Chiavari chairs, which are also known as tiffany chairs. These are a must have for all event hire companies. Your clients tend to hire out 100 of these chairs per event to fit all their guests, so it is absolutely vital that you purchase chairs that are either folding or stackable chairs.
4. Transportation – How will you be delivering your goods?
The right vehicle is needed to transport the right chairs – this ensures longevity in your product. Smaller vehicles such as a van will prefer folding chairs for ceremonies. Once you invest in larger freight, we can look at increasing the product range.
5. Cash Flow – Where to invest your money first?
Purchasing equipment for hire can get very expensive. Customers may be looking for you to cater all their event needs which can include staging, sound systems, marquees, on top of food equipment, tables and chairs. With Silver Chef, you can Rent, Try & Then Buy. They offer short 12-month contract, low weekly rental costs, option to upgrade at any time or buy outright with a generous rebate. For more information on how Silver Chef works, click here
6. Return on Investment – What does this mean for your business?
By investing in the right equipment and furniture, you aim to gather a return on investment within the first event season and then continue to grow your profit margin as you continue to take bookings. We ask that you take a second look at the strength of your furniture and how easy it is to clean them up. Avoid purchasing furniture solely by price because if they need to be replaced in the short term, you will fall behind in your investment. Our Chiavari ONE chairs are called “ONE” because that is exactly what they are. One piece. There are no joints or bolts which make them very strong and durable.
7. Insurance & Public Liability: Are you choosing the right products in regards to safety?
Do you have the right insurance and public liability policies in place to cover your business for any injury or harm caused when using your products? Look for commercial certification and market reputation so that you have peace of mind when supplying furniture hire equipment for public and private events. The Nufurn white gladiator chair is the only resin folding chair tested & approved by both AFRDI (AS/NZS 4688.2000) Commercial Level 4: General Commercial and BIFMA International (5.1 Standard-2002).
8. Are you dealing with a reputable Australian supplier or manufacturer?
Can you rely on your supplier to help you when you are in need? Can you call your supplier and make an urgent order for furniture that you have low in stock? Many start-up businesses consider importing as the cheapest and easiest solution when it comes to furniture until something goes wrong. Which, let's face it, happens a lot. Feel the relief when you can rely on your local supplier to have a commercial warranty on the products that you purchase and faster delivery.
9. Who can you turn to when more stock is required for over bookings?
It is difficult to rely on an importer to have the exact stock as per your previous order. You often end up having a variation of colour between your old and new stock, which does not help you. Your suppliers need to keep your core products in stock, to ensure you have a backup plan to meet your client’s expectations. Learn about what products your local supplier will likely to have in stock, years on end.
10. Does your supplier love your business as much as you do?
Number 1 point and number 10 are essentially about the same thing. You must love what you do and so must your supplier. The relationship between a business owner and a supplier is sometimes overlooked but can be highly valuable. A supplier can provide you with advice on the essential hire equipment to purchase, the number of various items to store, and where to store your inventory. It’s always best to deal with a supplier who cares about their customers’ long-term investment.

]]>The general manager wanted to refurbish the furniture at the club without changing the style that has been an affectionate reminder of when the club first started.
Commercial Club Albury is a quite special club. It opened in 1902 as a professional and business Gentlemen’s only club. It further became a leader in business development by being the first to have a poker machine in Albury, the first in NSW to have two elevated bowling greens, and the Border city’s very first multi-level car park.
They took their business expertise further and became one of the first customers to have electricity supply to light up the club. You can learn more about the club and view historical photos here.
We were determined to preserve it by replicating their furniture.
The problem was that there were no existing templates to work from. There were a lot of variations of moulds and types of machinery that we could have used but they would not have come as close to the style of the original tub chair as we wanted them to.
So, we manufactured it from scratch. Then we got a bit obsessive with trying to match the fabric and colour pattern. Our determined account manager Kathy, who we call the Queen of Clubs, drove a few times from Sydney to Albury just to match it as close as possible.
And we think she nailed it!
Here is the original tub chair from 20 years ago:
And here is the replicated version from Nufurn
We chose the Cruise Pumpkin Crypton fabric from Wortley Group to make the tub chair be 100% waterproof, highly stain resistant, and comfortable.
What do you think of the revival of the tub chair?
]]>We asked our Nufurn representatives to highlight some of their favourite projects.
Our clients took projects and turned them into masterpieces. Broadsheet recognised Henry Lee's Redfern as one of Sydney's Best New interiors for 2016 and they have recently been awarded Best New Cafe with Concrete Playground
A hidden gem in between the busy streets of Redfern. Enter Henry Lee's through a dark old warehouse and be transported into a gorgeous courtyard surrounded by light and stoned walls. Designed by Atelier Andy Carson
@henryleesredfern
We call Kathy the Queen of Clubs because not only is she fierce enough to take on the challenging task of refurbishing clubs, but she creates significant relationships with club members.
"I enjoy seeing the look on my clients face when everything has come together and their venue looks amazing."
Recently, she completed the refurbishment of Canley Heights RSL dining area and updated the Tab lounge area with the usual requirements – comfort and maximum number of seats.
"We designed the colours and choose the tables and chairs together and I know they were absolutely ecstatic with the result. As was I. "
We agree with you Kathy! The design on the back of Cruz tub chair is gorgeous and the bold colour on the Roma tub chair creates the perfect accent to the room.
Amora Hotel Jamison is a luxurious 5 Star Hotel located in the heart of Sydney. The entire place has been carefully detailed to emanate a feeling of luxury and pure comfort.
Kobe Robertson joined the Nufurn family this year and he started work, running. Right away, he began working with Amora Hotel and Interior Designer, Lassie Zia, on the soft refurbishment of the Charr Restaurant.
San Marino Tub Chairs were selected using Materialised Fabrics Zircon Zem-Charcoal & Crypton Aria-Ember to give a two - toned finish to the restaurant chairs to create a vibrant feel to the room.
Nufurn is proud to be a commercial supplier of Ivory Lane Event Styling & Hire – Tamworth.

From functions to wedding ceremonies, Ivory Lane have become one of the most reputable suppliers and have relied on Nufurn for new furniture concepts and inspirations.
We are very lucky get to see how our Nufurn Chiavari ONE and Bon Uno S Bentwood Chairs have been highlighted in Jane's wedding ceremony and function set ups and every single time, Ivory Lane takes our breath away with their beautiful style and design.
We would like to thank Ivory Lane for their support over the years. It’s been a pleasure being involved in the growth of such a fantastic business model.
Not only did we have the chance to travel to Hobart this year, but we got to work with passionate venue managers and designers who were determined to refurbish the Wrest Point Convention Centre venue. Which we have to say, was no easy task!
In order to supply Wrest Point with 2,000 banquet chairs that contribute to the operational element of their venue, Nufurn and Wrest Point worked together on developing an entirely new chair model.
Custom made furniture is a significant element of our business model. In fact, we have an entire upholstery department right here in our Sydney warehouse.
We can't wait to show you the photos in 2017!
Jose Delgado joined Nufurn this year and he was lucky enough to work for clients who own cafes in incredible locations, such as Coogee beach. It is those special moments at work when you can tell your colleagues that you have to head off to the beach to work.
Jose clients were the owners of Bell and Anchor cafe. They wanted to replace their outdoor tables to create a fresh look to compliment their gorgeous view of Coogee beach.
Take the family out this Christmas break and enjoy breakfast outside by the beach at Bell and Anchor.
Don't forget to snap photos and tag @bellandanchorcoogee
To round off 2016, we were lucky enough to complete another project with Hurricanes. The hotly anticipated opening of the Circular Quay site in the fully revamped Gateway development by Dexus group!
We will start the New Year off with a full run down of Hurricanes Circular Quay complete with photos of the furniture - not us :)!

They envisioned the diminished venue to be transformed into an open concept, family friendly pub with a menu so delicious, that it would become a neighbourhood favourite.
JDA and Bergstrom Architects worked together to convert the dated standard pub space into an upbeat bistro. From a small room with a couple of pool tables and a takeaway counter, they knocked down walls and extended the bistro space that opens out to an alfresco laneway dining .
JDA's vision was to design the pub with the theme of an industrial garden. They chose several different materials combining metals, timbers, classic and contemporary chairs. Painted pallets are hung from the ceiling, hanging plants and greenery surrounding the entire area. The Kroft, Tiamo and San Pedro chairs look absolutely perfect in the space.
Industrial Garden
The JDA team took advantage of a grubby old service alleyway and recreated it to resemble a Melbourne laneway dining experience. Along an exposed brick wall with graffit art, they decorated using string lights which draw your eye to glass ceiling above. We had the challenge of providing dry bar tables, stools, restaurant tables and chairs that lived up to the standard of this creative space.
Laneway Dining
Our white Miko chairs were placed in the laneway, paired up with textured compact laminate table tops. The parallel lines running through the chairs have a transparent aesthetic that creates the feeling of space and allows the laneway to breathe.
JDA decided to mix it up and add rough sawn recycled Oregon timber Smart Dry Bars and table tops to add character and colour. The Harvey Stools and Low Rail stools emphasised the look.
We can go on and on about furniture but we know that you are waiting to hear about Padstow Park Hotel ultimate food menu. Plus, you can find more photographs of the venue in our installation gallery.
JDA wanted to create a venue where you can enjoy sitting indoors or outdoors, listen to great music and eat delicious meals made from the freshest ingredients that your entire family can enjoy. The old kitchen that was in place simply would not have been able to handle the demands of the new menu, and so a decision was made to rip out the old and put in an entire new kitchen with state of the art appliances.
The result was a menu so delicious, that I was afraid to even attempt describing it to you. So, here is a snippet directly out of their menu:
#lunchinthelaneway
#fries #fries #fries
And to end the blog with a picture that looks so delicious, you will probably need to go on an early lunch break. (We suggest, Padstow Park Hotel :) )

]]>The night was filled with anticipation and excitement as IDEA has become one of the most prestigious awards program for interior designers and architects.
It was a time to celebrate interior designers who have dominated the Australian industry but to also showcase the emerging designers, who have shown great promise and accomplishments.
Throughout the night, presenters mentioned one key factor: A space needs to have a feeling of familiarity in order to attract people. A hotel needs to make you feel like you are at home (but I am guessing we don't want to to feel exactly at home, as I am already stressed thinking about my living space current situation).
But nothing rang more true. We all go to hospitality venues to escape our every day lives, but we still want to feel like we are at home when we are there. There is a pleasure in entering a venue that feels like heart and soul has been poured into it. The room would be filled with delicate art and decor but the lounges are inviting and homely. The friendly staff greet you and say, we are happy to have you here.
And when you enter a space that is cold, your expectations immediately gets let down. The furniture does not sit right. The chairs are worn out, or even the opposite, so luxurious and uncomfortable, you'd rather just stand or go home.
And so, it is no surprise that the nominated designers and winners all achieved the same thing. They created spaces that you can stay in forever.
